Echoes (In) Between – A podcast that explores what echoes in between our memories of the past. Where will your memories lead you?

ABOUT THE SHOW

Echoes (In) Between is a metaphysical audio drama podcast created by Brystal Studios. The story follows friends, Gemma Avots and Thomas Fonte, two thirty-something journalists based out of the Twin Cities who have decided to start a podcast about a radical new form of memory therapy. They have enlisted the help of a former psychology professor, Dr. Adrian Thorne, who developed a proprietary memory recall method that consists of having his subjects listen to specially designed tracks that contain frequencies which mimic brain wave patterns. Every week, Gemma, Thomas, and their listeners dive into their childhood memories with Dr. Thorne, hoping to recover long lost details. But when the hosts of the podcast begin developing worrying symptoms, what they thought would be a simple side project suddenly turns into an in-depth investigation into what Dr. Thorne’s frequency tracks actually do to the people who listen to them. 

Echoes (In) Between features light Sci-Fi elements as well as darkly comedic dialogue. The story highlights the pertinent themes of coping with generational trauma after an event that affected the entire world, as well as the effects of mental health deterioration on individuals and the people around them. But above all, Echoes (In) Between is a story about friendship and how complicated and nuanced non-romantic long-term relationships can be as we grow and change in adulthood.

 

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS?

Echoes (In) Between is the debut audio drama from Brystal Studios. Founded in 2021 by actress & writer Jessica Berson and musician & sound designer Bronson Metcalfe, Brystal Studios is an independent audio drama production company, focused on immersive sound-focused narratives. We believe in using the medium of sound to its fullest extent in order to create unique listening experiences that push the boundaries of what an audio drama can be.

The concept for Echoes (In) Between was jointly conceived of by both Bronson and Jessica. Jessica was responsible for writing the scripts for all twelve episodes as well as directing the vocal cast. Bronson edited the show, as well as created the immersive sound design and all of the original music.

HOW WAS IT MADE?

Jessica and Bronson met online in the summer of 2021 and bonded over a shared passion for telling stories through the medium of sound. With Bronson’s background in audio engineering and music and Jessica’s in voice acting and script writing, the duo quickly realized that they had the perfect skill set between them for making an audio drama. Keeping in mind their desire to utilize the medium of sound to its fullest extent, a story began to take shape in November of that year, and by January of 2022, they had Season 1 fully written, in the form of 12 completed half-hour scripts. The cast was pulled from a group of talented friends and family, who generously volunteered their time and energy to the project, and recording began in earnest in late January. The first season of Echoes (In) Between took just about six months to complete, from conception to release.
